We love our pets but we need to be sure that doting on them doesn’t adversely affect the environment. The biggest pet issue is waste removal and while most pet owners use plastic bags to dispose of waste, it can take up to 1000 years for a plastic bag to fully biodegrade. The jury is still out on which alternative is the most ideal, but the best current solution is to use biodegradable products. Cat owners should use only eco-friendly cat litter as clumping clay litter can be bad for kitties’ health and the key ingredient is strip mined from the earth.

Why buy sustainable non-toxic products for your pets?
It is important to buy organic pet food because the ingredients are grown or raised in a sustainable and humane way without the use of hormones and are minimally processed. Toxin-laced shampoos can also be swapped out with natural earth friendly versions. Pet owners can limit their environmental impact by buying pet products such as toys and leashes that are made of recycled materials or sustainable fibers.
The One Stop Sustainability Shop now carries biodegradable cat pan liners and dog waste bags. We also sell Dogma dog and cat beds made by St. Vincent de Paul in Eugene, Oregon from recycled mattress materials stuffed with Ecofiber (soft batts of post industrial cotton). All of the materials used for Dogma dog and cat beds are diverted from the waste stream to create comfortable beds for pets.
